Visit to the house of representatives with Caribbean students
By WeConnect Foundation: In our Caribbean College Tours series, we kicked off on January 18th with Dutch politics! On March 15, 2017, elections will take place. Students from Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Saba, and Sint Eustatius who are of voting age in the Netherlands are eligible to vote. We received a masterclass on Dutch politics, where 1000 years of political history were visually explained in just 30 minutes. Following that, a group of 30 Caribbean students visited the House of Representatives. Member of Parliament Amma Assante and former MP Tanja Jadnanansing treated us to an inspiring empowerment session and offered career advice.
WeConnect Foundation organizes activities to connect Caribbean students with each other, creates and implements projects within the Kingdom, produces educational documentaries, and creates various media productions (short and feature films).
From the article in the Curaçaoan newspaper Amigoe: “I wasn’t very interested in politics, but after hearing those personal stories, I feel involved and want to follow it,” said 20-something Dyonna Benett on Wednesday. Together with thirty other young people from Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, and the Windward Islands, she visited the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the House of Representatives of the Netherlands. – … correspondent Otti Thomas.
